Prince Harry and Meghan named their second child, born Friday, May 4, 2021, in California, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The name pays tribute to both Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is Lilibet, and his late mother, Princess Diana.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson released a statement Sunday, May 6, 2021, written on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William and Kate Middleton. According to the statement,  “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” William and Kate subsequently tweeted a supportive message reading, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie.”

Twitter deleted a tweet from Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, May 2, 2021. The company also suspended Buhari from using the platform for 12 hours. In response, on Friday, May 4, 2021, the Nigerian government announced its "indefinite" suspension of Twitter. On Saturday, the Nigerian government started blocking access to Twitter from within the country. In addition, the government announced that it would arrest and prosecute anyone in Nigeria caught using the social platform.

R.I.P Clarence Williams. The actor who starred as Linc Hayes, a young, hip undercover police officer on ABC’s “The Mod Squad,” died on Friday, May 4, 2021, in Los Angeles. He was 81. Following his breakout television role on The Mod Squad, Williams appeared as Prince’s father in 1984’s Purple Rain, FBI agent Roger Hardy in the second season of Twin Peaks, and Samson Simpson in 1998’s Half Baked, not to mention a variety of TV guest appearances including roles on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Everybody Hates Chris, Empire, and Justified.

During a virtual celebration at Coventry Cathedral, David Diop has become the first French writer to win the International Booker Prize, judges announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2021. The International Booker Award is awarded every year for a single book translated into English and published in the UK or Ireland.

David Diop's Senegalese great-grandfather's experiences in World War I inspired his winning novel, At Night All Blood is Black. Diop and the book's translator - US author and poet Anna Moschovakis will split the £50,000 prize between them.
