Former First Lady Michelle Obama launched a kids’ cooking show on Netflix featuring two puppets, Waffles and Mochi. Their names are also the new show’s title, available for streaming since March 16. In a message tweeted Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Obama said the show would help children ‘discover, cook, and eat delicious food from all over the world’.

Poet Amanda Gorman performed a poem on Sunday’s, Feb. 7, 2021, Super Bowl event, just moments before the coin toss between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. Gorman appeared in a taped message that combined her reading with images of the people she dedicated her poem to, educator Trimaine Davis, nurse manager Suzie Dorner, and Marine veteran James Martin.

Conservatorship is a legal concept in the United States in which a judge appoints a guardian to manage the financial affairs or daily life of another. Like Britney Spears, who in recent years is trying to end her father’s conservatorship.

A New York Timed documentary, Framing Britney Spears, explored the star’s conservatorship since 2008. Following its launch on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, Bet Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker tweeted #FreeBritney. Miley Cyrus shouted: “We love Britney!” during her pre-Super Bowl performance on Sunday evening. On Sep. 29, 2021, a judge approved Spears’s petition to suspend her father, Jamie Spears, as her conservator. Emma Watson hasn’t joined any new film projects since 2019’s Little Women. Her publicist told the Daily Mail that Watson’s career is “dormant” and she’s “not taking on any new commitments,” which led to rumors that she retired from acting. Watson’s manager, on the other hand, told Entertainment Weekly, “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant, but her career isn’t.”

Gal Gadot’s latest project is as an executive producer of “Impact,” a short-form documentary series that debuts April 19 on the National Geographic channel. The six-part series follows women in Brazil, California, Michigan, and Puerto Rico, among other places, who overcome extraordinary obstacles. 

The Simpsons’ Dr. Hibbert gets a new (Black) voice. After more than 30 years in the role, The Simpsons are replacing Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls from This is Spinal Tap) with Kevin Michael Richardson (better known as Cleveland’s voice from Family Guy). Shearer’s replacement in the role reflects the show’s commitment to no longer feature white actors voicing black characters.

Eddie was the dog on Frasier. A redo of “Frasier” is in discussions at Paramount Plus. Variety reported those discussions in their early stages, although it’s safe to assume Eddie the dog will not be returning to the show, as the dog portraying him died in 2006. 

Daft Punk was the first electronic act in history to win the album-of-the-year Grammy award in 2014 for the album Random Access Memories, including the mega-hit “Get Lucky,” featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

Pop Star Rihanna tweeted a link to a CNN news report on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, about India blocking internet services at farmers’ protest sites. The singer asked, “Why aren’t we talking about this?!” drawing attention to the massive farmer protests gripping India for over two months.

Tens of thousands of farmers have been protesting new agricultural laws to modernize Indian farming, which they say will leave them more deprived and at corporations’ mercy.

How did India react?

In response, Bollywood entertainers and sports stars used hashtags #IndiaAgainstPropaganda and #IndiaTogether, echoing the government’s stand on the agriculture laws and asking people outside India to refrain from meddling with their country’s affairs. “No one is talking about it because they are not farmers. They are terrorists who are trying to divide India,” wrote Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.

Sacha Baron Cohen was the only actor to land two acting nominations in the 2021 Golden Globe Awards. He won the best actor in a comedy or musical award for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. He was nominated (but didn’t win) for best supporting actor for his performance in The Trial of the Chicago 7. The awards ceremony aired on Feb. 28.

Cecil Hotel, AKA Hotel Cecil, currently named Stay on Main, is a budget hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It is the star of Netflix’s Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, which explores the mysterious death of Canadian student Elisa Lam and the conspiracy theories it spawned.
