Netflix’s 2022 series Wednesday follows the teenage daughter of the Addams Family (Jenna Ortega) as she attends Nevermore Academy, a school for society’s outsiders where her parents met. Ortega and the series were nominated for the 2023 Emmy Awards.

Fun Facts: The Academy’s “dorm mom,” Marilyn Thornhill, who, unlike other students and teachers at Nevermore Academy, lacks any special abilities or powers (or so it seems…), is played by Christina Ricci, who portrayed a 10-year-old Wednesday Addams in the 1990s Addams Family films.

Gwendoline Christie plays Larissa Weems, Nevermore Academy’s principal, in the 2022 Netflix series Wednesday. Christie is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones. In a Nov. 24 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Christie says that Wednesday “is the first time I’ve ever felt beautiful on screen.”

During its first week, Netflix’s documentary series about Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, attracted more viewers on the platform than any other documentary. After “Harry & Meghan” premiered on Dec. 8, its first three episodes recorded 81.55 million viewing hours. A total of 28 million households watched at least part of the series. In Britain, “Harry & Meghan” was the most-watched series on Netflix between Dec. 5 and 11.

In two sections of three episodes, the Netflix series ‘Harry and Meghan,’ released on Dec. 8, 2022, and Dec. 15, has a 15 maturity rating (in the UK), with the Netflix series warning it deals with “discrimination.” Watch the trailer.

The musical “Once Upon a One More Time,” inspired by Britney Spears’s discography, will arrive on Broadway in 2023, with preview shows starting on May 13. Spears’s songs, such as “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus,” and “Toxic,” are incorporated into the musical’s feminist awakening story of Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Mermaid. The show was first developed and produced by Shakespeare Theatre Company, Washington DC, where it received mixed reviews.

The Albanian president granted Lipa Albanian citizenship on Nov. 28, 2022, for promoting the country through her music and fame. She ended her world tour in Albania’s capital, Tirana, on the same day with a show commemorating 110 years of independence from the Ottoman Empire.

An 1896 Astoria, Oregon, home featured in the movie “The Goonies,” went on the market in November 2022 for nearly $1.7 million. The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that the sale of the Victorian home is expected to close in mid-January 2023. Oregon’s historic port had become a popular destination for Goonies fans since 1985 when the movie premiered. Thousands of people attend the city’s annual June 7 Goonies Day to celebrate the film’s release date.

The 1980s singer Irene Cara, who sang the theme songs to “Flashdance” and “Fame,” passed away on Nov. 25, 2022. She was 63. Her “Flashdance” song “What a Feeling” earned her an Oscar and a Grammy in 1984. She sang the title track and played Coco Hernandez in the film version of Fame (1980).

Kirstie Alley first appeared in season 6 of Cheers, portraying businesswoman Rebecca Howe, who becomes the owner of the bar where the series takes place. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role in 1991. Alley starred in several prominent films and TV shows during the 1980s and 1990s, including Veronica’s Closet and the Look Who’s Talking film franchise. The actress died at 71 on Dec. 5, 2022, of cancer that was only recently discovered.

The 80th Golden Globe nominations for film and television were announced on Dec. 12, 2022. ABC’s comedy “Abbott Elementary” led the television categories with eight nominations, followed by Netflix’s “The Crown.” In the movie category, “The Banshees of Inisherin” led with eight nominations.

The winners will be announced in a televised ceremony hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael on Jan. 10, 2023. Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the event. The ceremony in 2022 was not broadcast after a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed that none of the then-87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were Black.

Before joining the South Korean military on Dec. 13, 2022, Jin, the oldest member of BTS, cut his hair. Jin will spend five weeks at an army boot camp near the border with North Korea in preparation for his 18-month assignment. His younger bandmates will follow him into the military in the coming years.
