How many royal families are there in the world?

There are 44 states headed by royal families today. 13 in Asia, 12 in Europe, 10 in North America, 6 in Oceania, and 3 in Africa.

When did the royal family of England start?

The House of Windsor – England’s royal family – began in 1917. Queen Elizabeth’s grandfather, King George V, was the first Windsor king, and today’s English royals are the descendants of him and his wife, Queen Mary.

Where does the royal family get her money?

Sovereign Grant: One of the royal family’s primary income sources is the “Sovereign Grant” (£85.9 million in 2020–21), made up of profits from the massive property portfolio owned by the queen known as the Crown Estate. The Treasury Department pays a percentage of these profits to the monarchy.

Duchy of Lancaster: Among her many titles, His Majesty is also the Duke of Lancaster. The title belongs solely to the Monarch, regardless of gender. The King’s income is drawn from the Duchy of Lancaster, a private estate owned by The King. The King’s allowance from the Duchy of Lancaster is nearly 20 million pounds (about 26 million U.S. dollars) each year.
