While Phil died of pulmonary disease at the age of 74, on January 3, 2014, Don Everly, the last surviving member of the Everly Brothers, passed away at his home in Nashville on Saturday, Aug 21, 2021. He was 84.

Don Everly was the elder of the two Everly Brothers. Isaac Donald Everly was born on Feb. 1, 1937, in Brownie, Kentucky, two years before his brother.

“Bye Bye Love” launched the Everly Brothers’ career, topping the country chart and hitting No. 2 on the pop chart and No. 5 on the rhythm and blues chart in 1957.

The Everly Brothers broke up due to a feud in 1973, after 16 years of hits, then reunited for a London concert filmed in 1983.

The Everlys’ breakup came during a concert in California. Phil Everly threw his guitar down and walked off, leaving Don to finish the set and announce the duo’s breakup. “The Everly Brothers died ten years ago,” he told the audience.

In 2013, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and jazz sensation Norah Jones released a tribute album to the Everlys, titled “Foreverly.”
