Fortnite’s Chapter 3: Season 3, which started on June 5, 2022, introduces Darth Vader as a new character for players to unlock. Vader is joining the Obi-Wan Kenobi character made available in the Fortnite Item Shop on May 26. Later in the season, battle pass owners will also be able to unlock Indiana Jones.

What’s the vibe in Fortnite’s new season?

In Fortnite’s Chapter 3: Season 3, titled Vibin’, “the Island is one giant party,” equipped with a rollercoaster and a dance floor, among others, according to the Epic Games website. Watch the new season’s trailer. 

Batman, Arya Stark, Shaggy, and Bugs Bunny take on Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Tom & Jerry, and the Tasmanian Devil (AKA Taz) in Warner Bros. Games new “MultiVersus,” a free-to-play platform fighter game. One-on-one matches, team-based 2 vs. 2 battles, and a 4-player free-for-all mode will all be part of the game, available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One consoles, as well as PC (via Steam). MultiVersus is scheduled to arrive in July 2022. Originally released May 16, 2022, the trailer features the real Maisie Williams as the voice of Arya Stark. Watch the hilarious trailer.

Launched in Oct. 2021, Wordle is a viral wordplay game that allows players six guesses to determine a five-letter word that changes every day. The daily puzzle was quickly attracting millions of players. The New York Times announced, on Jan. 31, 2022, it has acquired Wordle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Microsoft announced on Jan. 18, 2022, it is buying “Call of Duty” and “Candy Crush” maker Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion –  the biggest gaming industry deal in history. The purchase pushes Microsoft past Nintendo as the third-largest video game company by global revenue, behind Sony and Chinese tech giant Tencent.

While it offers other streams, Twitch is mainly a streaming service for video games with commentary and e-sport competitions.

On April 7, 2021, Twitch announced a new policy for investigating streamers’ serious indiscretions in real life or services like Discord and Twitter. In partnership with a third-party law firm, Twitch will examine reports of offenses like sexual assault, extremist behavior, and threats of violence that occur off-stream.

According to a notice from the Chinese National Press and Publication Administration, China is banning minors from playing online games for more than three hours a week, allowing online games between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends, and on public holidays starting Sept. 1, 2021. The gaming restrictions are part of China’s continuing crackdown on tech companies.

The Nintendo Entertainment System was first released in North America on Sept. 27, 1986. It featured 17 launch titles, including Super Mario Bros. Masayuki Uemura, who developed the Nintendo Entertainment System that started a global revolution in-home gaming, died on Dec. 9, 2021. He was 78.

Modern Sudoku was introduced in Japan by Maki Kaji, president of the Nikoli puzzle company, in April 1984 as Sūji wa dokushin ni kagiru – Japanese for “Unmarried (or single) Numbers” – and in short, Sudoku. “Sudoku” is a registered trademark in Japan.

Maki Kaji’s Death

Maki Kaji, the “Godfather of Sudoku,” died Tuesday, Aug 17, 2021. He was 69 and had bile duct cancer.
