On July 19 afternoon, the UK Met Office weather agency registered a temporary reading of over 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in 29 places in the UK. Previously, the highest temperature reached in the UK was 38.7°C (101.7°F) at Cambridge Botanic Garden in July 2019.
