The Golden Globe Awards ceremony was aired live on Comcast Corp’s NBC network and Peacock streaming service. In 2022 the ceremony was not broadcast, and the winners’ list was tweeted instead.

The Golden Globes’ future was doubted after a February 2021 Los Angeles Times investigation revealed the organization had no Black journalists in its ranks. The HFPA pledged to reform and diversify its membership and changed some ways it operated. It now has 96 members, including six Black members, along with 103 nonmember voters.

The best supporting actress in a limited series Golden Globe went to Jennifer Coolidge, who gave one of the longest speeches of the 2023 award show. In an almost four-minute acceptance speech, Coolidge thanked show creator Mike White for the boost the series has given her career. The evening also marked Mike White’s first Golden Globe win.

The public school sitcom “Abbott Elementary” came in as the lead TV nominee and took home three awards at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, including the best comedy series. Quinta Brunson, the show’s creator, and star, won best actress in a comedy series, and Tyler James Williams won for his supporting role.

Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical coming-of-age film “The Fabelmans” won the award for best drama film at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. It’s the fifth time one of Spielberg’s films won the best picture Golden Globe. Spielberg began his acceptance speech by thanking his three sisters, his late father, and his late mother, Leah Adler (played by Michelle Williams in the film).

Colin Farrell won lead actor in a movie musical or comedy for portraying a farmer trying to repair a soured friendship in “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The film reunites Farrell with his “In Bruges” costar Brendan Gleeson. Written and directed by Martin McDonagh, “The Banshees of Inisherin” was nominated eight times at this year’s Golden Globes.

Colin Farrell started his acceptance speech for his role in “The Banshees of Inisherin” at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards with a rave about presenter Ana de Armas’s appearance in the Netflix movie Blonde. He preceded to thank fellow cast members, including “Jenny, the donkey.”
