By Feb. 28, Canada announced its own ban on TikTok from all government-issued devices. China’s foreign ministry said that the US government has been “overstretching the concept of national security.” and “suppressing other countries’ companies.”

It showed Iron Eyes Cody, an Italian American actor who claimed Cherokee heritage, canoeing through a polluted landscape and crying at the sight of trash. In addition to being an iconic piece of TV pop culture, the ad was criticized for being stereotypical and inappropriate.

Is the Crying Indian finally retired?

In February 2023, Keep America Beautiful transferred the rights to the ad to the National Congress of American Indians – a Native American advocacy group that plans to retire the character for good.

Fun fact: The Salton Sea was accidentally created in 1905 when an engineer tried diverting some of the Colorado River into a canal. However, he ended up flooding a dry basin below sea level.

Most marchers wore white and pink, the colors of the National Electoral Institute, as they yelled, “Don’t touch my vote!” In the same week, López Obrador insisted that he had documented a real-life elf, tweeting: “Everything is mystical.“

As reported on Feb. 22, 2023, these galaxies, billions of times heavier than our sun and as compact as the Milky Way, are so large and mature that they challenge current theories of early galaxy formation.
