On the other hand, Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, was part of the Russian empire, changed hands sixteen times from 1918 to August 1920, and became part of the Soviet Union in 1922.

Honduran authorities detained former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández on Feb. 15, 2022, to potentially face extradition and drug charges in the United States. Hernández, who led the country for eight years and stepped down less than a month earlier, was extradited to the US on Apr. 21 for taking part in a “violent drug-trafficking conspiracy” that since 2004 has transported 500 tons of cocaine from Venezuela and Colombia to the United States via Honduras. The former president’s brother, Juan Antonio Hernández, is serving a life sentence in the United States for cocaine trafficking.

Verizon Wireless became a 3G network in July 2002 – the second 3G provider in the US and the first to stay in business – while AT&T launched the company’s 3G network in the US in 2004. Japanese phone giant NTT DoCoMo launched the world’s first 3G network in 2001.

 Are 3G networks disappearing?

Telecom companies are shutting down their old 3G networks. AT&T is scheduled to be the first carrier to shut down its 3G network on Feb. 22, 2022. In December, T-Mobile will shut down its 3G network and Verizon by Jul. 1. The upgrade will disconnect 1.5 million customers with 3G dependent fire or burglar alarms and about half a million with medical alert devices that run on 3G – unless they upgrade their devices.

ViacomCBS Inc announced it’s changing its name to Paramount. The media conglomerate that owns CBS, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, Smithsonian, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+, Pluto TV, and more announced the change during a presentation of its streaming strategy on Feb. 15, 2022.

Adaptive driving beam (ADB) systems are glare-free high beam headlights designed to Increase safety by dimming individual LED lamps. Camera sensors and computers help to focus the beams on darkness and lower the intensity of the light beams if there’s oncoming traffic. The headlights, commonly used in Europe, will become legal in the US in 2022, according to a Feb. 15, 2022, US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration news release.

Saxaul trees, commonly known by their Arabic name Al-Ghadha, produce seeds only as they become drier. The saxaul can survive for months without water and thrives where temperatures soar to 58 degrees Celsius (136 F). Guinness World Records recognized Saudi Arabia’s Unaizah park as the world’s largest saxaul botanic garden, stretching over 172 sq km (66.41 sq miles). As part of the Saudi government’s green initiative to reduce carbon emissions, pollution, and land degradation, the Al-Ghadha environmental association plans to plant 250,000 drought-resistant Saxaul trees during 2022 in Unaizah.

Cryolipolysis is a method intended to remove fat by freezing – better known by the brand name CoolSculpting. It destroys about 20%-25% of the fat cells in the targeted area by cooling them to a temperature of −11 to +5 °C (+12.2 to +41 °F) while leaving the skin and other tissues unharmed. The procedure is not surgery and doesn’t involve needles.

What happened to Linda Evangelista?

Supermodel Linda Evangelista, 56, has lived in seclusion for almost five years amid a failed CoolSculpting procedure. The supermodel filed a lawsuit in Sept. 2021 for $50 million in damages, alleging that she’s been unable to work since undergoing seven sessions of CoolSculpting from Aug. 2015 to Feb. 2016. On the Feb. 28, 2022, issue of PEOPLE, Evangelista claims CoolSculpting left her “permanently deformed” and “brutally disfigured.”

Ivan Reitman, the filmmaker and producer behind “Animal House” and “Ghostbusters,” was also the director behind Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito’s “Twins” and “Junior.” In Sept. 2021, it was announced that a sequel, “Triplets,” was in the works, with Reitman directing his original cast, plus Tracy Morgan as their long-lost brother. Reitman died peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 12, 2022, in Montecito, California. He was 75.

Patrick Stewart is Professor X, AKA Charles Xavier, on Marvel’s X-Men movie series. Stewart is returning to the role he presumably left when the character died in 2017’s “Logan.” Marvel Studios released its first official trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” during the Super Bowl on Feb. 13, 2022. Who’s hosting the 2022 Oscars?

Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes will host the 2022 Academy Awards, Variety reported on Feb. 14, 2022. The academy officially announced the hosts on Feb. 15’s “Good Morning America.” The 94th Academy Awards is on Mar. 27, 2022.
